Carlos Wilkening is an architect with extensive experience in designing, planning and building. He aims for sustainable architectural solutions that are valid for the future by using emerging technologies while understanding and respecting the historic context.
Over the last years he has been exploring the use of timber construction for buildings of public use.
Several award winning projects have been realized under his project lead by practices in Zurich and Munich, (Lukas Imhof Architektur, Meck Architekten). He is currently widening his knowledge of computational design methods, robotic fabrication strategies and automation solutions by attending the Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich.
Having studied architecture at the Technical University Munich, Germany and Università degli Studi ROMA TRE, Italy Carlos Wilkening finished his studies with the best diploma project of his class at TU Munich in 2011. He there joined the chair for architectural design and conception with Prof. Uta Graff as a teaching assistant, founded his own practice and since then worked on his own and collaborative architectural and design projects.
His start-up WIMMoebel offers solid wood furniture from CNC-prefabricated parts that are assembled in inclusive workshops by people with special needs.
