Carlotta Darò is currently a senior researcher at the Gramazio Kohler Research working on a history of immersive modeling techniques. She studied art history at the University of Rome La Sapienza and Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne where she obtained her PhD. She was an invited scholar at the Canadian Center for Architecture and became an Andrew Mellon postdoctoral fellow at McGill University. In 2012, she took up the position of associate professor (Maître de conférence)at the Ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture Paris Malaquais and in 2020 she passed her habilitation at the University of Paris Est.
Carlotta Darò’s research lies at the intersection between architecture, art, sound technologies and media. She published in different journals including The Journal of Architecture, AAFiles, gta papers and the Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte. She is the author of Avant-gardes sonores en architecture (2013), Les Murs du son, le Poème électronique au Pavillon Philips (2015) et Paysage de lignes, esthétique et télécommunication (2022), forthcoming at MIT Press (2025). She worked in museums (Centre Pompidou, Museo Pecci, Mamco Geneva, Palazzo Fabroni) and served as curator for different exhibitions such as Moteur, Action, Forme : Bruther architects (2021), LC8/8 l’exposition de “Le Corbusier” de la maison de la culture de Grenoble, 2018–1968, (2018), Art, Architecture, Utopie en Toscane, 1960–70 (2002). Carlotta Darò is currently contributing to the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture as director of publication and as co-curator of the Radio Utopia sound laboratory.
