Matthias has studied architecture at the University of Technology in Vienna, where he received his Master’s Degree in 2015. During his undergraduate studies he collaborated on projects with MIT Media Lab’s Changing Places group and worked on a state funded (FFG) research project led by Susanne Seitinger with support by AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology).
Starting in 2012, Matthias spent a year in Cambridge (US) where he was a part of MIT’s Senseable City Lab. Participating in the group’s research on how pervasive networked sensing and computing technologies change our ways to look at and plan cities, he particularly co-led a project to discover novel heating technologies. This project, ‘Local Warming’ was invited by Rem Koolhaas to be displayed at the Venice Architecture Biennial 2014.
Matthias works in the field between architecture and technology, looking for innovative solutions for a sustainable future. His latest research focuses on construction grammars for the automation of architectural production.
He has a passion for traveling, loves to explore the mountains and is a dedicated marathoner. Matthias lives in Zurich, Switzerland.
