Kathrin Dörfler studied Architecture at the TU Graz and TU Vienna, and Digital Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Peter Weibel and Tom Fürstner. With the diploma thesis “Integration of digital and physical design methods” she completed her Architecture studies in 2012 with distinction. Her thesis was developed in cooperation with Romana Rust, with whom the 2nd prize at GAD Awards’12 was won. In 2013 Romana Rust and her founded the architecture collective dorfundrust. From 2006 onwards she has been working for different architecture firms in Vienna, among others for gaupenraub and soma Architects. Between 2012 and 2013 she was University Assistant at the Institute of Art and Design at the TU Vienna, teaching in the field of computer-aided design and fabrication. Since October 2013 Kathrin Dörfler is a PhD researcher at the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Prof. Fabio Gramazio, Prof. Matthias Kohler) at the ETH Zurich and joined the NCCR Digital Fabrication since September 2014. In her academic work she focuses on the integration of digital and physical design and production methods, the study of feedback-based processes and their embedding in the current debate in architecture.
