Robotic Cosmogony, Museum of Digital Art, Zurich, 2016-2017
The robot which makes particles float
Robotic Cosmogony, specifically designed for the Gramazio Kohler exhibition at the Museum of Digital Art, consists of two robotic arms that create seemingly weightless spaces through sound waves, allowing tiny particles to float.

Multiple audio signals at 40kHz are used in and out of phase to create a point in space in which objects can be suspended in mid-air. Each robot is equipped with this acoustic levitation device that allows it to pick up the particle and maneuver it through space without physical contact.

Time and acceleration of the moving particle are comparable to planets orbiting in space. When the particle reaches the limits of its robotic workspace, it is handed over to the other robot to continue its intertwining path.
