Marco Palma was educated in architecture at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, where he received his Master of Science in Architecture with honours in 2012. In his master thesis he examined the use of genetic algorithms for the design of free-form acoustic shells. During his studies he was Visiting Scholar at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA, where he developed a strong interest for digital fabrication and material research. Since then he acquired practical experience as a specialist in computational design for the late design stages in different architecture and engineering offices in Italy and Sweden. Working for the Italian company Bodino Engineering, he took part in the production and construction of two complex-shaped structures for Milan Expo, the Vanke Pavilion (designed by Studio Libeskind) and the China Pavilion (designed by Studio Link-Arc). In 2015 he joined Fablab Torino and the Co-de-iT team, both Italy, to develop an ongoing robotic fabrication project. Since July 2016 Marco Palma is part of Gramazio Kohler Research and joined the NCCR Digital Fabrication as a research assistant. |
